Determining the Relationship Between Perceptions of Nursing Care Quality and Satisfaction Status in Multicultural Patients with Hematological Malignancies

AIM: This study aims to investigate the correlation between multicultural patients with hematologic malignancies’ perceptions of nursing care and their level of satisfaction, with the objective of providing recommendations for enhancing the quality of nursing care based on the findings.

METHODS: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 140 patients aged 18 years and over who were hospitalized in the hematology and bone marrow transplantation unit between January and October 2024, who agreed to participate in the study and were able to communicate. Data were collected using the “Personal Data Collection Form” and “Newcastle Nursing Care Satisfaction Scale,” “Patient Perception of Nursing Care Scale.” Data analysis was performed using SPSS, version 20.0.

RESULTS: The mean score of patients’ satisfaction with nursing care was found to be 90.45 Å} 12.29 and the mean score of perception of nursing care was found to be 72.75 Å} 5.00. A positive statistically significant relationship was found between the total score average of patients’ satisfaction with nursing care scale and the total score average of perception of nursing care scale (r = 0.637; p = .000). The difference between the patients’ comorbid disease status, diagnosis, age, country, and the mean score of satisfaction with nursing care was found to be statistically significant (p < .05).

CONCLUSION: Although patients’ satisfaction with nursing care is largely positive, improvements in specific areas (such as age, diagnosis, comorbid diseases, and country-related factors) could further enhance the quality of care and patient satisfaction. Moreover, these study findings indicate that the influence of different cultures on perceptions of nursing care plays a significant role in shaping nurses’ care practices.
