Determining of the Practices Related to Pain of Health Care Providers Working in Internal and Surgery Clinics

Purpose: The study has been made as descriptive so that the health providers working in internal and surgery clinics for adults can determine the practices related to the pain of the patient.

Method: The study has been made in Konya, in 2005. The population of the study consisted of 195 of health providers working in internal and surgery clinics of the Hospital pf Medicine School of Selcuk University, Meram, Konya. The samples of study consisted of 130 people accepting to complete the questionnaire. For collecting data, a questionnaire including 18 questions had been used.

Results: 51,8% of health care providers participating in the study were nurses, 46,8% were 25-29 years old, 66,2% graduated from health high school and 52,5% had been working in surgery clinics. 60,4% of those working ones had 1 to 5 years of experiences. It has been found that 29,5% of health care providers were educated in the school about the pain. Mostly, the oral reports of the patient had been used among the methods used for determining the pain. The interventions against the pain of the patient by health care providers included analgesic and calling the doctor.

Conclusion: Regarding to the outcomes, one can suggest that it should be concentrated on the methods with exception of using medicine in fundamental education and in service training.
