Purpose: This study was planned as descriptive and correlational to evaluate the problem-solving efficiencies and self-efficacy perceptions of first year students in a School of Nursing.
Method: The research population included 137 first year students who were agreed to participate into the study and completed data collection instruments in a Nursing School. Data were collected using “Questionnaire Form” that including personal characteristics, affecting factors of self-efficacy perceptions and problem-solving of the students, “Problem-Solving Inventory” and “Self-Efficacy Scale”. Numerical and percentile distributions, correlation coefficients, variance and Post-Hoc test were applied to analyse the data.
Results: The mean age of students was 19.66±1.27 years and 92.7 % were female. The students’ self-efficacy perception mean score was 88.58±10.57 and problem solving efficiency mean score was 83.69±17.05. A correlation was found between selfefficacy perception and problem-solving, however it was statistically significant (r=-0.60, p<0.01).The students who attend of family’s decisions, whose decisions were appreciated and selected the nursing profession voluntarily had higher self-efficacy perceptions (p<0.01).
Conclusion: It was considered that students’ who had average scores and were at their first year in their education, self-efficacy perception and problem-solving efficiency will be improved their in nursing education process by effectively learning strategies
