Neurosurgical Operating Room Nurse’s Roles and Responsibilities

In the operating room environment which exists in nature of operating room nursing and requires optimal team work, description of the nurse’s role and responsibilities have been ensured possibility for the realization of functions. Neurosurgery is a broad surgical area which includes removal of pathologic lesions; relief of pain, spasm and other neurophysiologic conditions; and repair of nevre injuires and tissue defects. Hemostasis and ensuring the visibility of structures in the surgical site are two important speciality in neurosurgery. For the nurses who are working in the neurosurgical operating room, it is required to have knowledge and experienced related to the structure and function of nervous system, the use, care, working order and safety factors of sophisticated and complex instrumentation to provide skillful, safe and humanistic care for patients.
