Physical Environmental Conditions of the Hospital and its Effect on Patients

This descriptive investigation is planned to reveal the effects of physical environmental conditions o internalised patients and the positive effect on recovery period. A total of randomly chosen 80 patients, internalised in Internal Medicine an Surgery wards at University of Istanbul, Istanbul Medicine Faculty Hospital, Private Bah- ~elievler Omiir Hospital, Sisli Etfal Goverment Hospital, SSK Samatya Hospital were taken in this study between August-November 1997. A questionnarie, comprising social-demographic properties of patients, physical environmental conditions of the hospital and its effect on patients, is prepared in the light of the literature in addition to an observation form are distributed and data are analysed using x2 (chi square) test. The results showed that the state of phycsical environmental condition of the for different hospitals are away from expectations. Therefore, these hospitals are insufficient to supply the fundamental needs of patients thus, having negative physical and mental effects on patients.
