The Level of Knowledge of Nurses Working in Chest Diseases Hospital About Tuberculosis

Aim: The study was carried out with aim of determining the general knowledge levels of nurses working in Chest Diseases Hospital.

Method: The study, descriptively and sectionally, was carried out by applying guestionnaire form to 211 nurses who accepted to participate this study in between 28 January and 12 February 2009.

Results: It was obtained that average score of Tuberculosis knowledge levels of nurses was 78.66 ± 15.14 (min:35 – max:100). Statistically significant difference was established between sex, educational status, work unit and tuberculosis knowledge levels of nurses. No statistically significant difference was obtained between tuberculosis case in first degree relatives, taking a general tuberculosis education in the last 6 months and tuberculosis knowledge level.

Conclusion: The level of knowledge about tuberculosis of nurses is good. It should be provided to meet their needs and update their knowledge with continuous in service training programmes.
