Aim: The purpose of this methodological study was to assess the validity and reliability of Turkish version of the Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction (CNPI) Scale. Using CNPI Scale, caring nurse-patient interaction could be evaluated according to “importance”, “competence” and “feasibility” aspects and these aspects explained as dimensions of scale.

Method: The adaptation of the scale to Turkish language was performed via back-translation, content validity was examined by refer to experts, reliability was examined with test-retest reliability and internal consistency, validity was examined with construct validity. The universe of the study consisted of nursing students who accept to participation of study in three nursing programs. Test-retest reliability was examined with 75 nursing students; internal consistency and concurrent validity were examined with 350 nursing students.

Results: The test-retest reliabilities of items of importance, competence, feasibilty dimensions of Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale were 0.75, 0.86, 0.76, respectively. For internal consistency, scale’s item total correlations were 0.56-0.81 and Cronbach’s Alphas were 0. 99, 0.98,0.99,respectively for the three dimensions of scale. Construct validity was examined with Face Vaildity, and factors loads of all items for three dimensions of scale were over 0.30.

Conclusions: The findings concern in the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale indicates that this instrument can be used in the studies that will be conducted in Turkey.
