As one of the recent popular issue, the emotional intelligence has been discussed as a determining succes in people's personal and professional lives. This approach requires the competences associated with emotional intelligence of nursing students. This descriptive research was designed to determine emotional intelligence level of students of Florence Nightingale College of Nursing. Data were collected using of information form developed in the light of the literature by the researchers and "Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale" developed by Hall and of which Turkish adaptation was organized by Ergin (1999) It's reliability and validity in Turkish was determined Cronbach Alpha as .84. 

The universe and sample of the research was consisted of 456 students attended at Istanbul University Florence Nightingale College of Nursing in Fall semester 2002-2003 academic year. The final sample group was seventy-four percentage of the target number. The data were analyzed using percentage, t-test, variation analysis (ANOV A) and Tukey tests. According to the results of the research statistically significant relationships were found between the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence of the students and grade and 1t was also found that working affected the level of emotional intelligence positively.
